A small contingent
of La Columna attended the dedication of a bench at Newhaven Fort in Sussex.
This was to commemorate to the day the return of the British Battalion,
through the port, on the 7th December 1938.

This event
was organised by The International Brigades Memorial Trust (IBMT), who
kindly invite La Columna to attend. Richard and James formed a guard of
honour on either side of the bench and presented arms when Jack Jones
unveiled the bench at the end of the ceremony.

James was also
asked to read an extract from George Wheeler's book, 'To make the People
smile Again', describing his departure for Spain through Newhaven.
This was a
well attended event, despite the cold and helped to reinforce La Columna's
ties with the IBMT.
