Where to get Alpagartas?Anyone wishing to represent a soldier of the Spanish Civil War must have a pair of alpargatas. This was a commonly worn form of foot wear and can be seen many photos and are mentioned in most personal accounts.
The Spanish alpargatas were fresh, light and sturdy. They are still being manufactured, as they are perfect for the Spanish summer. What kind of Alpagarta is appropriate? In Madrid many shops sell commonly used modern alpargatas along with "traditional" types which are the ones you want for a SCW impression Traditional types include "Aragonesas" (Aragonese) whish are open and with black laces or the "Castellanas" (Castilian) , closed and with white laces. See below
If anyone else knows of any other suppliers please email me at alpagartas@{nospam}lacolumna.org.uk and I will add them to this page. You will need to delete {nospam} from the email address |
